God wants to Talk to You
Then Peter said to Jesus in reply, “Rabbi, it is good that we are here! Let us make three tents: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
He hardly knew what to say, for they were so terrified. Then a cloud came, casting a shadow over them, and from the cloud came a voice: “This is my beloved Son. Listen to him.” (Mark 9:5–7)
Just before the Transfiguration, Jesus had begun to reveal to His disciples that He would suffer greatly, be rejected by the elders, be killed, and then rise on the third day.
These words filled the disciples with fear as they struggled to accept such a difficult revelation.

Even though Jesus remained firm with them - and even rebuked Peter for his fear -He also chose to give three of His disciples a most precious gift.
After many days of traveling, preaching, performing miracles, and privately speaking to the Twelve about His coming Passion, Jesus invited Peter, James, and John to follow Him up a high mountain to pray.
They could not have known what awaited them. As they made the steep and exhausting climb, their minds must have been filled with both the wonders they had witnessed and the troubling words they had just heard about suffering and death.
Then, to their amazement, Jesus “was transfigured before them, and his clothes became dazzling white.” Suddenly Moses and Elijah appeared, representing the Law and the Prophets.
Their presence testified that everything Jesus was saying about His mission was the fulfillment of God’s plan foretold long ago.

Perhaps Jesus hoped that if His disciples struggled to listen to Him, then seeing Moses and Elijah might strengthen their faith. But He did not stop there. The very voice of the Father thundered from heaven: “This is my beloved Son. Listen to him.”
If the disciples would not yet believe Jesus’ words, and if even Moses and Elijah could not convince them, then the final and undeniable witness was the Father Himself. Such was the mercy and grace Jesus bestowed upon them.
This is the same message we are reminded of through the song, Listen to Me, Oh Lord (Sikia Bwana Sauti Yangu) by Kwaya ya Mt. Kizito Makuburi. It reminds us that God listens to our every word-our feelings, our thoughts, our anxieties, and our fears. But He also calls us to listen to Him in return, and to follow His voice.
The Transfiguration was an act of profound mercy. The disciples had never witnessed anything like it.

Most likely, it was this vision of glory that helped them eventually accept the hard truth of Jesus’ coming Passion. For if the Father Himself gave witness to His Son, then everything Jesus spoke was trustworthy and true.
As we read the Gospels and the teachings of the Church, we must ask ourselves: are there teachings we struggle with? Are there areas of our lives where we know God is calling us, yet we resist or hesitate?
When confusion, doubt, or fear sets in, it is often a sign that we are not truly listening to Him. We may hear His words, but we do not let them sink into our hearts.
Though we may never see the Transfigured Lord with our eyes or hear the thunderous voice of the Father with our ears, we are still called to believe as if we were on that mountain with Peter, James, and John.
The Father’s words were not just for them, but for us: “This is my beloved Son. Listen to him.”
Reflect today on this powerful moment. Place yourself on that mountain. See Jesus shining with heavenly glory. See Moses and Elijah. Hear the Father’s voice.

And allow that same voice to speak into your life, confirming that everything He has spoken—in Scripture, in the Church, and in your conscience—is true.
Let this revelation deepen your trust in Jesus. Believe in His divinity. Believe in His words. And above all, listen to Him.
Prayer
My transfigured Lord, You are glorious beyond imagination. You revealed a glimpse of that glory to Your disciples so they would learn to trust You more completely.
Give me that same grace. Remove every doubt and fear from my heart so that I may embrace Your holy will without hesitation. May I listen to You in all things, and trust that every word You speak is true.
Jesus, I trust in You.
