MercyMe releases ‘Why Not Now, Why Not Me’
The American contemporary Christian band MercyMe has released a powerful new single titled Why Not Now, Why Not Me
The song came out just a month after their moving track Heartbroken Hallelujah. In this new release, MercyMe asks a profound question: “Why not now, and why not me? What if I actually believe what Jesus says about me—what He thinks of me? Why not now, and why not me?”
They remind us that when we truly believe, everything changes because Christ changes everything. The lyrics encourage us to pause, take another look at ourselves, and boldly declare: “Why not now, and why not me? What if I really believe what Jesus says about me?”
The song builds into a soaring message of hope: once you know your true identity in Christ, the ceiling that once limited you becomes your floor. You are free to rise, to fly, to shine. The lyrics echo with inspiration: “It feels like this is your time to shine. What if this was the day your life finally came to life?”
This song reminds us that in our daily lives, there are moments when it feels as if God has abandoned us. But that’s not the truth—it’s simply that we often fail to recognize the countless blessings He continues to give us.
There are seasons when we don’t hear His voice, don’t sense His presence, and struggle to see His hand at work. Like the psalmist, we cry out: “My God, why have you forsaken me?” (Psalm 22:1).
We know the theological truth: God never forsakes His children. Yet many of us wrestle with doubt. Some wonder if they were ever truly His children, while others, though confident in their salvation, still feel forsaken.
We may not understand why. If God is a loving Father who longs for closeness with His people, why does He sometimes allow such seasons where we cannot feel Him? These “dark nights of the soul” whisper lies that we will never see the dawn again.
The real question becomes: how do we keep walking with God when we neither see Him nor feel Him? How do we keep putting one foot in front of the other without the comfort of assurance? The answer lies in faith. To live through such experiences is to grasp the true meaning of “walking by faith.”
Faith is not about what we can see, hear, touch, or feel—it is about trusting God even when our senses deceive us. For those who struggle with scrupulosity, perceptions can feel distorted, making us fear we are in spiritual danger. But these distortions are not proof of our standing with God.
Even in the dark, God’s promises remain steady. Our hope does not rest on how we feel but on who He is. His presence is real whether we sense it or not. The voices of doubt may try to convince us we are alone, but the truth of God’s nearness cannot be shaken.
