You Are Above – 'Wewe Uko Juu'
Isaiah 40:22 reminds us: “It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; He stretches out the heavens like a curtain and spreads them out like a tent to dwell in.”
When we lift our eyes to the heavens, we see a God who is above everything. He clothes Himself in light, wraps Himself in majesty, and stretches out the sky as if it were a simple curtain. His greatness cannot be measured; His power cannot be contained. Wewe Uko Juu — You are above all.
Psalm 104 declares, “Bless the Lord, O my soul! O Lord my God, You are very great; You are clothed with splendor and majesty, covering Yourself with light as with a cloak, stretching out heaven like a tent.” He is the Maker of all things, the Redeemer who formed us from the womb, the One who alone laid the foundations of the earth.
And yet, this God who sits enthroned above the heavens does not remain far away. He is also close. He comforts us when we are afraid. He reminds us not to fear people, not to tremble before oppressors, because His hands — the same hands that set the stars in place — also hold our lives.
Colossians 3:1–4 tells us to set our minds on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Though He is high above, He has chosen to be near, to dwell within us through Christ. What a mystery! What a miracle! The One who reigns above all creation also reigns in our hearts.
So today, let us lift our eyes. Let us fix our gaze on the God who is higher than the heavens and greater than the earth. Let us worship Him who is above all things — yet who also walks with us.
